The female gorilla became famous because she was very affectionate in sign language. The whole died asleep, says the foundation he cared for.

The size was born in 1971 at the San Francisco Zoo and was originally named Hanabi-ko. Hanabi-ko, in Japanese, means "firecracker child". All taught sign language with the help of Dr. sc. Francine Patterson and understood about 2,000 words of spoken English.

Koko was the protagonist of a series of documentaries and in 1978 he appeared on the cover of National Geographic. The selected photo was a selfie that Koko made in the mirror by an analog camera. The whole adopted a kitten named All Ball and when the cat was hit by a car and died, Patterson asked Kokon for what happened. The whole turned to the sign language: "Cat, cry, sorry, love whole".

Another death saddened Kokon in 2014 when actor Robin Williams broke away from life. Koko and Williams became friends in 2001 when they were filming while laughing and playing together. When he learned that Williams had died, Koko was silent and sad.

Koko was also a friend of Flea, bassist of Red Hot Chili Peppers and actress Betty White. In 2012, the gorilla surprised the researchers by dropping the flute. One birthday, Koko got a gift box filled with kittens.

"Her impact was profound and the things she taught her about the emotional capacity and the gorillian learning skills will live long," writes The Gorilla Foundation.
