A powerful and rare storm is expected to hit the eastern Mediterranean this weekend. Hybrid storm, also known as "Medicane" (Mediterranean + Hurricane), has similar features to hurricanes and typhoons.
According to a study published in 2011, only one or two "Medicane" occur annually. These powerful storms are more common in September and October, when the surface temperatures of the seas are still warm. However, "Medicane" can happen at all times.
A few days ago, the storm in question caused unexpected flooding in Tunisia and Libya. For now, moving to the Mediterranean, towards Europe.
Models are in very good agreement in potentially intense warm core cyclone * MEDICANE * in the Ionian Sea this Friday. The Medicane could make landfall in SW Greece early Sunday with high winds, high waves, torrential rainfall and flash floods: https://t.co/WsGna2s3Vs pic.twitter.com/1VDeTuqjiF

As it is located above the sea, the storm will take the form of a hurricane, such as strong winds and an eye in the center.

It is expected that the storm will move slowly towards Crete and southern Greece this Saturday. On Sunday, more rapidly, the storm will turn to western Turkey.
The areas of Greece and Turkey will have abundant precipitation rain and strong winds.
Fortunately, "Medicane" will soon be extinguished and will not stay long in southeastern Europe, which means flooding will be scarce.
