When it comes to cheating, emotions are always strong. Anger, disappointment, guilt, shame, all of it. The bitter truth? Each of us knows at least one girl who has been (or is) in a relationship with a cheating guy.
Sometimes it's easy to spot a serial cheater. Other times, he's so well camouflaged behind excuses that you'd think he's just "afraid to commit to a serious relationship." But no. There are some small signs that make it clear that the problem isn't commitment, it's the habit.
Here are what they are:
1. The relationship with you started when he was with someone else.
If your story began when you were "the other one," or he left someone for you without properly closing the previous chapter, do the math.
Life and divorce coach Karen Finn explains that when you enter a relationship with someone who has a history of infidelity, you are consciously entering a dynamic where lying has already been part of the game.
If he did it to you once, he can do it to you again.
2. He swears he "never cheated" (but you know that's not true)
A serial cheater rarely admits guilt himself. If he did it and never told you, but you found out by accident, that says a lot.
A 2025 study found that planned infidelity is associated with less guilt and remorse. So if he's been quiet and hasn't felt the need to confess, chances are he hasn't had a bad night's sleep about it either.
3. He doesn't introduce you to anyone in his life.
You've been together for months and you haven't met any friends, any family members, anyone?
This is not because "he's a private guy." This is a deliberate separation of two worlds. Cheaters often keep their parallel lives completely separate to avoid detection. If you don't exist for his circle, there's a reason why.
4. You don't exist in his public world.
No photos. No posts. No tags.
Relationship expert Charles J. Orlando, who has interviewed dozens of men who have cheated, says that when a man is proud of his partner, he shows it. If he keeps everything a secret, he's keeping you "in the drawer."
5. His friends are… problematic
If his circle is full of "night boys", shady stories and the normalization of betrayal, this is no coincidence.
Studies show that when infidelity is seen as normal in a social group, commitment to the relationship weakens significantly. People become like the friends they surround themselves with.
6. He is always "surprisingly busy"
Every time you make plans, does he have an excuse? Or does he cancel everything at the last minute with complicated stories?
According to Charles J. Orlando, many men who cheat admit that they often make up excuses and even start artificial arguments just to have a reason to leave.
When setting up a meeting with him seems like an obstacle course, something is wrong.
7. Suddenly becomes "boyfriend of the year"
After cold or strange periods, does he suddenly become super affectionate, showering you with gifts, attention, and romantic plans?
Often this is a way to ease one's conscience or to make up for something one has done. Serial traitors operate in cycles: disappearance, distance, spectacular comeback.
Don't ignore intuition.
The signs are not always dramatic, they are small, scattered, but recurring.
Serial cheaters are masters of manipulation. And if he jokingly tells you, "You're paranoid," that's probably where the answer lies.
Intuition is rarely wrong. Especially when it comes to the heart.
