An unprecedented heat wave is hitting Europe, causing casualties and putting health systems under pressure.
In France, the number of young children who have lost their lives due to extreme temperatures has risen to four, while more than 55 people have drowned, as experts warn that nearly half of the continent's largest cities are experiencing record levels of heat stress.
Meanwhile, the heat wave is expected to move towards Central and Eastern Europe, where around 150 million people will face temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius.

Experts warn that extreme heat waves are causing alarming glacier melt in Switzerland, so much so that by Monday the entire amount of snow and ice accumulated during last winter is expected to have disappeared.
According to specialists, this is the second earliest moment ever recorded when glaciers begin to lose net mass, while in the last 10 days alone some of them have lost about a meter in thickness.
Scientists warn that, if global warming continues at the same pace, only small traces of ice could remain in the Swiss Alps by the end of the century.

Russian authorities in annexed Crimea have declared a state of emergency after increased drone attacks from Ukraine, which have caused fuel shortages and power outages.
Meanwhile, Ukraine and Russia exchanged 160 prisoners of war, while Kiev also announced a project to develop domestic capacities in artificial intelligence for security needs.
At the same time, two NATO countries have warned that Russia could prepare a provocation against the Baltic states or Poland, while former Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov has died at the age of 73.
