US threatens to reconsider role in Bosnia and Herzegovina due to rift with Europe
A dispute between the United States and European countries over the appointment of the High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina has deepened tensions between the allies, prompting Washington to warn that it may reconsider its role in international peacekeeping missions in the country.
The US supported Italian diplomat Antonio Zanardi Landi, while most European countries preferred French diplomat René Troccaz, which blocked reaching a consensus in the Peace Implementation Council.
The Trump administration is being viewed with suspicion by some European partners for its approach to Bosnia, while analysts suggest that economic and business motives in the region may also be hidden behind American interest.
US officials warn: Ebola outbreak in Central Africa could reach record levels of 2014
According to a new analysis by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the current Ebola outbreak in Central Africa could reach 20,000 cases or more, approaching the 2014-2016 crisis in West Africa, when over 11,000 people died.
Experts warn that the situation could worsen if infected people are not identified and isolated quickly, although they emphasize that predicting the spread of epidemics remains very difficult.
So far, around 400 cases and 63 fatalities have been confirmed, while the response to the outbreak is being hampered by armed conflicts and massive population displacement in the affected areas.
Azerbaijan denies accusations that Israel has used its territory for operations against Iran
Azerbaijan has rejected international media reports claiming that Israeli military personnel and agents operated from its territory during the war with Iran, calling these claims "completely unfounded."
Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry stated that the country has never allowed its territory to be used for actions against a third state, including Iran, with which it shares a border of about 700 kilometers, and added that there is no evidence to support these accusations.
The statement comes at a time of regional tensions, as Baku stressed that it maintains good relations with both Iran and Israel, pursuing a balanced policy based on national interests and cooperation with countries in the region.
France says Zelensky will meet Macron, Merz and Starmer in London on Sunday
Zelensky will hold a meeting in London on Sunday with the leaders of France, Germany and the UK – Emmanuel Macron, Friedrich Merz and Keir Starmer respectively – to discuss increasing pressure on Russia and further support for Ukraine.
The meeting comes just a day after Zelensky publicly proposed to Vladimir Putin a face-to-face meeting and a complete ceasefire, while Macron announced that the "Coalition of the Willing", the group of countries that are preparing security guarantees for Ukraine after a peace agreement, will meet again in Paris on July 13-14.
Meanwhile, overnight Russian attacks left at least seven dead in Ukraine, while according to a recent analysis, for the second month in a row Ukrainian forces have regained more territory than they have lost on the front.
