Israel attacks Iran despite Trump's call, Middle East crisis threatens to escalate
Israel carried out airstrikes on targets in Iran, just hours after US President Donald Trump asked Benjamin Netanyahu not to immediately respond to an Iranian missile attack.
The clash marks the first direct exchange of fire between the two countries since an April ceasefire and has raised fears of a new escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.
Meanwhile, tensions have also affected markets, with the price of oil rising sharply and other countries in the region preparing for possible consequences of the conflict.
Zelensky discusses "urgent need to increase" air defense with key allies in London
Zelensky met in London with the leaders of Great Britain, France and Germany to discuss the urgent strengthening of Ukraine's air defenses, following new Russian attacks with hypersonic weapons.
The four leaders condemned Russia's massive attacks and urged Vladimir Putin to accept an immediate ceasefire as a step towards peace negotiations.
The meeting comes at a time when Ukraine is intensifying attacks inside Russian territory, while Zelensky declared that his country will not "die in silence" and will continue to respond.
Powerful earthquake strikes southern Philippines, tsunami warnings issued
A 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck the southern Philippines on Monday morning, causing building collapses, power outages and tsunami warnings in some coastal areas.
At least three people were killed and four others injured, while authorities ordered evacuations and suspended classes in affected areas.
Tsunami warnings were also issued for parts of Indonesia and Malaysia, while aftershocks remain a concern for residents.
At least 10 dead in migrant boat sinking near Malta
At least 10 people have died after a migrant boat capsized near Malta, while search and rescue operations are still ongoing. According to the Italian coast guard, there were about 60 people on board who had set off from Libya and about 48 of them were rescued alive by a fishing boat in the area.
The accident occurred about 83 kilometers southeast of Malta, after Maltese authorities requested help for a boat that had capsized and left people in the water. The Italian coast guard said 10 bodies had been recovered so far, while the search continues.
The sea route between North Africa and Italy or Malta remains one of the deadliest in the world. According to the International Organization for Migration, at least 827 people have died attempting the crossing since the beginning of the year.
