It finally happened: King Charles has met his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, for the first time since 2022, after a long period of tensions and setbacks.
According to People, Meghan Markle traveled to the United Kingdom with her two children, while Prince Harry was already there for his engagements. The meeting with the king took place at Highgrove House, his country residence, and was kept completely private.
No photos or details from the visit have been released, as the family decided to keep it out of the public eye.
This was the first time Archie and Lilibet had seen their grandfather since 2022, when they traveled to Britain with their parents for Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Later that year, Meghan and Harry returned to the country for the Queen's funeral.
The long-awaited meeting was in danger of not taking place due to security concerns. British media reported that Harry and Meghan's request for full protection throughout their stay in Britain had been rejected, so Harry urgently sought alternatives so that the family could travel, even for just 24 hours. The guaranteed security was only valid within royal residences.
A few days before the meeting, sources close to the royal family suggested that Harry still hoped for a family reunion.
"Although nothing had been confirmed, talks were ongoing," a source said.
Another added that King Charles would not miss the opportunity to spend time with his grandchildren and that, if a way could be found to make the meeting possible, he would accept it.
