After weeks of online speculation about her appearance, Anne Hathaway has finally decided to respond publicly.
The famous actress of the film The Devil Wears Prada has denied rumors that she has recently undergone plastic surgery, explaining that the change in her appearance came simply from a braided hairstyle that created a lifting effect .
In a new interview with Elle magazine , published on May 21, Hathaway explained why she decided to speak out about the rumors, even though she usually prefers not to comment on her personal life or the speculation that circulates online.
“We live in a time where people feel very secure in assuming that what they think is fact,” the 43-year-old actress said. “Sometimes they’re right and sometimes they’re not.”
She explained that the buzz around her appearance had become so great that she felt the need to tell her version of the truth.
"I started to wonder if I should post that video or not. Maybe I should just keep doing what makes me feel good and gives me confidence on the red carpet. But I felt like the whole conversation was becoming distracting," Hathaway said.
She further emphasized that people were talking about "big medical decisions" without knowing anything concrete.
"I wanted to show that no, I didn't make any big aesthetic decisions. It's just two braids," she said humorously.
However, the actress did not rule out the possibility of one day undergoing cosmetic surgery.
"Maybe one day I can get a facelift," she admitted honestly.
During the interview, Hathaway also spoke about the beginnings of her career and how criticism affected her.
“When I was younger, I was very afraid, and that fear made me very hard on myself,” the Oscar winner said. “I even regret thinking that I might have been hard on others, just because I was that way with myself.”
In another interview with PEOPLE magazine , Hathaway also spoke about her concept of beauty, saying that authenticity is what makes someone truly beautiful.
"Beauty can also contain imperfections, as long as there is truth within it," the actress said.
She also humorously shared that for years she couldn't achieve the hairstyle she wanted, until one day she decided to simply show the stylists a reference photo.
