Madonna has revealed that decades spent on stage have taken a toll on her physical health. In a recent interview with Interview magazine , the music icon revealed that she has completely lost cartilage in one of her knees, as a result of years of intense performances, high-heeled dancing and grueling workouts.
"I have a knee problem right now. I have no cartilage at all ," the singer said, explaining that the injury is the result of years of high-heeled dancing, running and practicing Ashtanga Yoga, one of the most intense forms of yoga.
Even though she is 67 years old today, Madonna revealed that until about a year ago she continued to follow an extremely busy training regimen.
"I was doing trampoline jumping, cardio, and activities that doctors would consider to be overloading on the joints. Now I can't do them anymore," she said.
However, the artist hasn't given up on physical activity. She's adapted her routine to include lighter exercises like Peloton, Versa Climber, high-intensity interval training, outdoor cycling, and, of course, dancing.
During the " Celebration Tour " in 2023, she appeared several times with a special knee brace, while in 2019 she was forced to cancel several concerts of the " Madame X " tour due to pain that she described at the time as "unbearable."
In addition to health challenges, Madonna also spoke about another major disappointment: the biographical film project about her life, which failed to materialize.
She revealed that she had been working on the film script for two years in collaboration with Universal Pictures , but the project was discontinued due to budget disagreements.
"I had an extraordinary life and my story required a big budget. They couldn't understand that," the singer said.
According to her, even the attempt to turn the story into a series for Netflix encountered legal obstacles, as she could not use the script she had written without repurchasing it from the studio at a very high cost.
Madonna revealed that after canceling her autobiographical project, she channeled her energy into music. She is currently working on her 15th studio album, “ Confessions on a Dance Floor: Part II, ” and in early June she presented the short film “ Confessions II ” at the Tribeca Film Festival , a project that serves as an introduction to her new artistic era.
