Who are Lorena and John Bobbitt?

John and Lorena were an American couple married on June 18, 1989, whose relationship became famous in 1993 when Lorena cut off his penis as he was sleeping.

The incident occurred on June 23, 1993 in Manassas, Virginia, and the legal issue took place later in the '93 - '96.

Lorena stated at the court hearing that when she returned home, her husband raped her. After sleeping, she took a knife in the kitchen, went into the bedroom and cut off the penis. However, through a difficult 9-hour operation, the doctors managed to put it back in place.

Arrest and trial

When he was arrested on June 23, Lorena told the police: "He always goes to orgasm and does not expect me to have one; is selfish ".

After six months, her trial was a great event. CNN broadcast the whole session; many people sold out hot dog judges and other penis-like things and there were many witnesses who said they had seen evidence of its abuse.

During the trial, the couple discovered the details of their unstable relationship. Lorena stated that during marriage she was sexually abused, physically and emotionally by her husband. John denied the charges, however his statements often collided with one another, severely weakening his innocence.

Among other things, she said they lacked financial sustainability, while John had stolen and spent all her savings.

After many hours of discussion, the court declared Lorena innocent and the cause for her action was the irresistible impulse caused by her husband's sexual abuse.

As a result, she could not declare responsible for her actions, so the court decided to stay for a 45-day period at the Central State Hospital and then be released.

In 1995, after six years of marriage, they divorced.

What happened next?

Although Lorena told Oprah Winfery in April 2009 that she had no interest in talking to John, they appeared together at The Inside r in May of that year. During the show, he apologized for his treatment of marriage and claimed to continue to love and send flowers and postcards to St. Valentine.

The "Bobbitt" case brought attention to the issue of domestic violence and marital rape. Within a few days, advocates against domestic violence and feminist groups came to the Lorena wing.

Immediately after the incident, many cases of "Bobbittmania" were reported, ie crimes of this nature. The name of Lorena Bobbitt became synonymous with punishment by cutting the penis.

"Lorena" will start broadcasting on Amazon on February 15th.
