You do not have the idea of how many roses need a bottle of Chanel No. 5

Chanel No. 5 is not really iconic. It's old but good, like wine work; sold in a simple stylish bottle; there is a number in the name that is tempting; and every bottle needs a laughable number of roses. No roses, roses that grow only in this month and only in the city of Grasse (France), the capital of perfumes in the world, to be collected at a specific time of the day.

"Pink rose in the evening and emits sweet smells like spicy honey," says Olivier Polge, the resident scent of Chanel. This means that every morning, for three weeks, collectors work double doubles to fill the fronts with the newly-blossomed flowers of 50,000 pink plants. Each collector collects almost 5kg of flowers per hour (1kg of roses are about 350 flowers).

Subsequently, the roses are transferred from the front to the sackcloth with extraordinary care so that they are not printed. Then, in battle against time, sacks are weighed before the petals melt away from the heat. After weighing, the flowers are opened in overlapping trays, immersed in solvents, stirred and heated to high temperature. Solution absorbs all the fragrances that will be used in the final perfume.

After extraction with a solvent, a wax is called "concrete." "It is stored as a treasure," the brand says. 400kg of roses are needed to extract 1kg of wax. Finally, concrete is transformed into an "absolute" liquid used in the formulation of Chanel No. 5. If you want to make more accounts: 1kg wax produces 600g of absolute rose.

Final result: Chanel No. 5 in your hands.
