Where to hide valuables, according to house thieves

If you keep money or valuables under the mattress, in your underwear drawer or in a safe, you are wrong. House thieves first search in these places.

A panel of former house thieves, organized by the John Lewis department store chain, advise storing valuables in cereal boxes or children's toys.

One of the former thieves said boxes of pasta, rice and cereal are ideal places to hide jewelry because whoever intends to steal you has no time to scrutinize the kitchen.

Many keep valuables, such as car keys, in the kitchen, or in a drawer with ordinary objects. You can hide valuables where you keep old DVDs or discs because it is more difficult.

There seems to be an unwritten rule among thieves that forbids them from entering and controlling children's rooms. Therefore, you can hide what you have in the children's drawers.
