If you are young, lucky, and destined for destiny, you have to work twice as hard to ruin your life. Ask Nicole (Scarlett Johansson) and Charlie (Adam Driver) the 2 protagonist characters in the new film by director and screenwriter Noah Baumbach, "The Story of a Marriage"!
When we first met them, the couple were in love, enjoying the new apartment in New York and each other's company. Then, something happened and the couple is ready to sign the latest divorce papers. What the hell are they doing? Neither of them knows for sure.
"The Story of a Marriage" is Netflix's second feature film and the script is the author's inspiration from his 2013 divorce with actress Jennifer Jason Leigh. With a great performance by Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver this family drama is more tangible today than ever.
However desperate the situation becomes, the moments of smile in the film are not missing, as is the case in reality.
As the divorce begins to progress, the pace of the drama grows. Nicole, having taken her son and moved to Los Angeles, on the other hand, Charlie begins the fight with him over custody.
Further, the antagonists further complicate the story by making maneuvers to position themselves during the battle that awaits them. At this point, Charlie bursts into tears.
Both lawyers think they can win the case, but anyone who has had the chance to move into such a situation can assure you that no golden carpet awaits you. Nicole and Charlie have gone too far to go back. They have to keep moving forward until they reach the bitter end. Although they do it themselves, viewers will feel compassion for them.
Time continues to put them in play. At the end of the day the bills have to be paid and the responsibility is on them.
"The Story of a Marriage" will air November 6 in all US cinemas.
