1. 50 First Dates
The film may be a sugary romantic comedy, but in fact, it's based on the story of Michelle Philpots. After two head injuries, she suffers from a rare form of amnesia that prevents her from creating new short-term memories. This means that she has no idea what happened after 1994, and since new memories are wiped out when she sleeps, her husband must tell her every morning that she has suffered an accident and that they are married.
2. The Notebook
The most romantic film of all time, The Notebook was inspired by the relationship of Nicholas Sparks' wife's grandparents - a couple who have been together for 60 years. The idea of writing a book with two individuals who loved each other so much was born the day after Nicholas married his wife and went to visit her grandparents. That day, they told the newlyweds how they had known and fallen in love.
For Sparks, inspiration was born of the way the couple treated each other. On his official website, he writes: ?The way his eyes glowed when he saw her. How he held his hand, how he cared for her, how he made tea. I remember seeing them and thinking that after 60 years of marriage, they treated each other the way I treated my wife after 12 hours. What a wonderful gift we were given. On the first day of marriage we were told that love is eternal. ?
3. The Big Sick
The film tells the story of two men who often came together but are unrelated when suddenly the woman falls into a coma. It looks like the standard premise of a romantic comedy, but it's actually based on the story of screenwriters Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon. In contrast to the film, Nanjiani and Gordon were not separated, but were in the eighth month of attachment when she fell ill and was placed in a coma by doctors. Gordon was diagnosed with Still's Disease - a systemic autoinflammatory disease that, if left untreated, can deplete the body's most important organs. Nanjian stayed with Gordon throughout the challenge and when she woke up, she was ready to marry him.
4. The Terminal
This movie is based on the crazy story of Iranian refugee, Merhan Karimi Nasseri. He arrived at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris in 1988 and intended to travel to the UK. Unfortunately, he was turned away by the authorities because he did not have a passport. Unable to return home, Nasser lived for 16 years at the airport.
