Elton John says that in the last years of his life, Michael Jackson had the impression that he was mentally ill - which led Elton to believe that there was no hope for the King of Pop anymore.
In his new memoir book, entitled "Me," Elton John talks about Michael Jackson pretty much. Some media have seized a copy of the book coming out on Tuesday and are mostly discussing the excerpt where Elton describes the artist's mental state.
?I've known Michael since he was 13 or 14 years old ... He was a very cute kid. At one point, he began to isolate himself from the world, from reality, like Elvis Presley. One God knows what was on his mind and one God knows what drugs he was taking, but every time I met him, the last years of his life, the only thing I thought was that this poor man had lost it, ?writes John. 'I don't say it lightly, not even in half-heartedness. He was really mentally ill. It was hard to spend time with him. ?
Elton then describes a case where he invited Michael to a party at his home and says that shortly after arriving, Michael left the other guests and started playing with Elton's maid's son. "For reasons I don't understand, she couldn't handle adult society," the singer adds.
Michael Jackson passed away in 2009. Finally, the headlines have again become headlines after being accused of sexual harassment by Wade Robson and James Safechuck, whose story is described in the HBO documentary Leaving Neverland.
