A retired 67-year-old doctor gave birth to her third child after she became pregnant naturally.

The woman, with the surname Tian, gave birth to a daughter at Zaozhuang Hospital, where she had worked as a doctor before retiring.

A hospital spokesman told CNN that Tian became naturally pregnant after using medical knowledge to use traditional Chinese fertility treatments.

The baby was born through a caesarean section. "We were very fortunate, given that the mother was old and had some complications," said Liu Wencheng, the doctor responsible for the birth. The baby weighed 2.56 kg at birth.

Liu said that during the operation, they saw that Tian's ovaries were like that of a 40-year-old woman. They did not shrink like a woman's ovaries at her age and this factor played an important role in natural pregnancy.

The mother and child were resuscitated but are in good health.

Tian's husband, 68, with the surname Huang, made the name of the newborn public. It's called Tianci, which means "gift from heaven."

The couple has two grown children, a son and daughter and several grandchildren. The eldest granddaughter turns 18 this year.

Their children disagreed with the third pregnancy. "My daughter told me that if she brings this baby to life, she won't speak to me anymore," Tian said.

Many women are trying to have children after China repealed a law in 2016 that obliged couples to leave only one heir.
