Nexhmije Hoxha, wife of dictator Enver Hoxha dies

Nexhmije Hoxha, widow of dictator Enver Hoxha, died at the age of 99. The news was confirmed to her family media.

Nexhmije and Enver Hoxha were married in January 1945 and had three children, two sons and one daughter. During communism, dictator Hoxha's wife held several important posts, as director of the Institute of Marxist-Leninist Studies at the Central Committee of the APL and was president of the Anti-Fascist Women's Union of Albania. Najmiyyah was one of the most ardent supporters of the dictator and never publicly apologized for the crimes of communism. In her books, she defended her husband's image to the maximum.

In 1992, Nexhmije was arrested on charges of abuse of funds and sentenced to 9 years in prison, which became 11 after appealing to the second degree of trial. Of these, he served only five years in prison after benefiting from amnesties.
