Rihanna made history by becoming the first woman to appear on the cover of British Vogue wearing a durag as a symbol of the power of people of color.
Offending. Durag, either do-rag or du-rag is a scarf that is placed on the head, mainly to hold the braids better. Duragas were originally used by poor working and slave women of the 19th century. Following the Black Power Movement, a movement to empower the African-American community, dragons became commonplace accessories and were used by many celebrities, including rappers and athletes. Duragas became a symbol of the survival and power of African Americans.
"Did I ever imagine I would see a dragon on the cover of Vogue?" British Vogue editor Edward Enninful wrote on Instagram. In the posting, he revealed that it was Rihanna's idea to show off with patience, which was created by well-known hat-maker Stephen Jones.
"For the set, she wanted a new decade," he said. ?We have worked with a considerable archive to find a new proposal. It was 2am when my phone rang and said, 'What if we use a durag?'
It is not the first time Rihanna has appeared with duress, at the 2014 Council of Fashion Designers Awards with a crystal-covered durag.
In 2016, he unveiled the MTV VMA ceremony, again bearing the brunt of a design by Moses Gauntlett Cheng.
Recently durag has become Solange and Janelle Monae's favorite accessory.
