"Chocolate reduces stress" seems a bit like one of those things you say to yourself for comfort when you just can't stop eating.
But in this case, you are absolutely right!
In an episode of "Well + Good" on You Tube, the series: " You Versus Food ", certified dietitian, Tracy Lockwood Beckerman, shows what makes chocolate such an effective stress fighter.
"Dark chocolate can be helpful in relieving anxiety because of its antioxidants, flavanols and, of course, flavor," says Beckerman. "The antioxidants in dark chocolate can reduce stress by lowering cortisol levels, such as and "fight-or-flight" hormones, known as catecholamines.
Dark chocolate is even better because it has high amounts of cocoa, ie greater amounts of powerful antioxidants. Moreover, it has less sugar compared to other chocolates and excess sugar can contribute to other health problems.
You can also try, and simply cocoa, which contains many nutrients, including stress-fighting magnesium and mood-boosting alkaloids.
