According to Glenn Close, the Oscars Academy erred in 1999 when it awarded Gwyneth Paltrow the "Best Actress" award for "Shakespeare In Love."
In an interview with ABC News' "Popcorn with Peter Travers", the 73-year-old actress praised actress Fernanda Montenegro for her powerful role in "Central Station".
"I honestly think that being nominated by your colleagues is an achievement. And then, I never figured out how to honestly compare shows. I remember the year when Gwyneth Paltrow won against the incredible actress who was at 'Central Station' and I said: What? No sense."

Then he added:
"So I think victory also depends on how things have been."

Other nominees for Best Actress that year included Meryl Streep for "One True Thing."
Cate Blanchett for "Elizabeth"
and Emily Watson for "Hilary and Jackie."
