What does it mean to be unsexual and why is it not strange not to be like that!

Have you ever heard of the term alokesual / alosexuality? Simply put, someone is unsexual, when they have even the slightest sexual attraction to someone / something.

The director of the Gender and Sexuality Center at Brandeis University, Julián Cancino confirms:

"In the sexuality spectrum, asexual is the identity of people who experience sexual attraction."

The term is derived from asexuality, or people who do not experience sexual attraction.

"They coined the term 'asexual' to draw attention to the dynamics of the power and privilege of attraction," adds Cancino.

Identification as asexual is a privileged identity as sexual attraction is supposed to be the “norm”.

What does an alokesual look like?  "Asexual people are of all races, nationalities, religions, genders, ages and abilities," Cancino explains.

Instead, let’s focus on how identifying does not look like asexual.

"Just because homosexuals experience sexual attraction, it does not mean that they agree to any kind of sexual activity. It is important to discuss consent, to make sure both parties are on the same path."

The opposite of asexuality? It is asexuality.

It is important to distinguish and be aware of these two opposite terms because it is often assumed that asexuality is (or should be) everyone's experience, everyone is expected to experience sexual attraction at some point in our lives, but for some this does not happen.
