Did you know that about 60% of people can not spend 10 minutes without lying? At least, says one study in the Journal of Basic and Applied Social Psychology. Fortunately, you can find out if someone is lying in some sharp way.
1. Ask them to listen to the story backwards or forwards
Usually, when people lie, they already have a fabricated, ready-made story in chronological order. If they have to repeat their story differently, they will feel stressed because that is not what they planned. In this case, the lie will be aggravated and they will leave behind many important details or events. A true story would be much easier to retell.
2. Use the surprise element
If you think the person in front of you is lying to you, ask a question in the middle of the story. Something very specific, if you can. This way, they can try to spread their lie so much that they will start to get confused or say something that is obviously untrue.
3. Beware of fake smiles
If you know someone, you can easily tell what his smile is like. Always keep in mind that when people smile, they make the whole face, not just the lips. Pay attention to details.
4. Try to pay attention to any changes in sound
When someone lies, their tone of voice and the speed with which they speak change. Notice when someone speaks more slowly or faster than usual. See sound tones and how they change. Such details may indicate uncertainty.
5. See if there are delays in their responses
If you ask a question that is relatively easy to answer, yet the person is looking for time to answer, it means that they are probably thinking what to say: What will be the next lie. On the other hand, if it seems to you that the person is answering, before the question is over, he or she may have thought that you would ask the question. To understand which case it is you need to be attentive and see, depending on the context, what response you received.
6. Check how his relationship with self-confidence is
If a person begins to notice that you do not trust them or have doubts, you will begin to see how security fades in their eyes. The body may gradually bend and he may no longer look you in the eye as before.
These are just a few tips to "find" the liar, but they are not exact science, so be careful if and when you use them.
