In a new interview with Esquire, actor Justin Theroux, Jennifer Aniston's ex-husband, said the couple "could not be together" but "bring joy to each other and are good friends".
"I mean we're friends. We talk to FaceTime. We send messages. Like it or not, we did not have that dramatic separation and we love each other. I'm honest when I say I appreciate our friendship. It makes me laugh. "There is a lot of humor. It would be a loss for me if I did not have contact with her. I hope she thinks the same."
The statement continued:
"Normally we have done this privately, as the gossip industry cannot resist an opportunity to speculate and invent, so what does not come out of our mouths is simply someone else's fabrication. Above all, we are determined to maintain the deep respect and love we have for each other. "
The couple met in 2008 and began dating in 2011. They were married in August 2015, in a ceremony disguised as "Theroux's birthday party".
In previous interviews, the actor has expressed that the separation has been "heartbreaking", more "in the sense that friendship would no longer be the same".
"Our friendship changes and changes, but it always stays there and that is something we are both proud of."
