7 Most Common Causes of 'Yellow Teeth'

When it comes to teeth, prevention is always better than cure. However, if you have just done teeth whitening, or are thinking of doing it, it is good to know how to maintain the ongoing color. Here's what usually causes "yellow" teeth:

1. Coffee, red wine

Coffee is a known culprit for teeth. If you drink it regularly and do not rinse your mouth with water after drinking it, dark pigments called chromogen in brown can stick to the surface of tooth enamel, causing them to darken over time. Red wine also has a similar effect, so it is recommended to drink water intermittently to help reduce the coloring effect. In addition to these, of course there are other drinks, such as black tea.

Adding milk to tea or coffee can help reduce this effect. Plus, milk is a good source of calcium that is important for dental health!

2. Foods that "leave stains"

Like beverages, any food that stains your fingers is likely to stain your teeth as well. We mention here berries, beets, etc.

3. "Acidic" drinks

If you thought white wine was a spotless alternative to red, think again. The acidity of some wines can soften tooth enamel, making teeth more prone to stains from other foods and beverages. Fizzy drinks can also have a detrimental effect - due to the content of sugar, acid and pigments. You can consume them, but in moderation.

4. Inadequate consumption of water

Irrigation of the recommended amount of water throughout the day is important for hydration, but can also help flush out staining substances left on the teeth.

5. Smoking

Regular checkup with the dentist is the basis of everything related to oral health. If you ignore it, you may face more serious and consequently more costly problems in the future.
