Bill Gates spoke about the reason for the divorce, present at Allen & Co.'s "summer camp for billionaires." last week at an "exciting" hearing, for which a source told the New York Post that the Microsoft founder was on the verge of tears.

During an off-camera question-and-answer session, CNBC executive Becky Quick asked the billionaire about his divorce from Melinda, the 27-year-old woman.

"He was basically referring to the fact that the divorce was his fault," the source said. "He was excited about it. It may have been on the verge of tears, "added the same source.

Gates did not mention "betrayal" when discussing the end of the marriage, which another attendee described as "very touching".

Bill and Melinda announced their divorce in May this year.

"After a long analysis of thoughts and a lot of hard work in our relationship, we have decided to end the marriage," he wrote on Twitter. 

According to them, the divorce came after they believed they "could no longer grow as a couple".
