If you notice dark spots on your feet or other areas of the skin that may look like small blackheads, you may have "strawberry" skin. The term comes from the dotted appearance that resembles strawberries.

What causes it

1. Shaving: especially unsuitable shaving with old razors or without cream.

2. Clogged pores: The skin contains thousands of pores and they can be clogged with bacteria, dead cells and dirt.

3. Folliculitis: occurs when the hair follicle becomes inflamed and sometimes infected.

4. Keratosis pilaris: appears on the skin of the thighs and upper arms.

5. Extremely dry skin: may cause or worsen symptoms.

Home treatments

- Shave properly and carefully with a moisturizing shaving lotion or cream.

- Using an epilator (hand-held power tool that catches and removes hair from the root).

- Hydrate the skin every day.

- Exfoliate the skin constantly to remove dead cells.

- Use of an over-the-counter (OTC) product containing salicylic acid or glycolic acid.
