Judoka Distria Krasniqi defeated the Japanese Funa Tonaki in the final, securing the first medal for this year and the second for Kosovo, since her debut at the 2016 Olympic Games.
"Kosovo wins! We have the first Olympic medal from the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Distria Krasniqi brought gold to himself and our entire country, making us proud. " - writes the Kosovo Olympic Committee.
The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, who was present in the hall, described the moment as "indescribable honor and happiness".
"Distria, the first in the world, proved today again that it is invincible and that it is the pride of our country. "She proved that talent and work always triumph." - writes Osmani.

This is the second Olympic medal for Kosovo, after Majlinda Kelmendi's gold in Rio 2016.
