Wayne Rooney has apologized to his family and Derby, following the publication of images showing the former England striker in a nightclub and then in a hotel room, surrounded by the girl. 

"I made a mistake," the Derrby manager told Sky Sports. "I went to a private party with two of my friends and would like to apologize to the family and the club for the images circulating, moving forward."

He added:

"I am grateful to Derby County for giving me this opportunity to get this club back where it belongs, and I will do everything in my power to make sure I continue to do so!"

The images circulated this weekend, making the network spin very quickly. Police confirmed that "a complaint has been filed about blackmail in relation to the images". 

"I have clarified. I look forward to moving forward and preparing for the next game," Rooney said.

The 35-year-old has been married since 2008 to Coolen Rooney. Together they have 4 children, where the youngest is 2 years old.
