Kanye West has filed a legal document in court to change the name. The rapper, whose current name is Kanye Omari West, will simply be called "Ye".

But what does the name mean?

According to Kida DL, the name Ye is of Chinese origin and means "leaf" or "universe". It originates from the city of Ye in Henan and is a very common name and surname in China.

Baby Names, meanwhile, explains the name Ye - as "light", again a name of Chinese origin.

Ye, is also the rapper's least liked album, released in 2018.

It's not the first time Kanye has mentioned a name change. In November 2019, he told Yeezy designer Steven Smith that if he wanted to, he could change his name to Christian Genius Billionaire Kanye West for a year.
