After suing her father, Rihanna withdraws the lawsuit: What happened?

Rihanna has dropped a lawsuit filed against her father, Ronald Fenty, alleging he was abusing her name to take advantage of his company. This new development in the matter comes just weeks before the two meet in court.

Opened for the first time in 2019, the case was scheduled to go to trial on September 22, but Rihanna appeared to withdraw on Tuesday, September 7th.

While there is no confirmation as to why Rihanna dropped the legal case, US media are reporting that she may have reached an out-of-court settlement with her father.

In the initial registration, it was written:

"Although Mr. Fenty is Rihanna's father, he does not have, and never has, the authority to act on her behalf."

The singer sued her father and his business partner, Moses Joktan Perkins for fake ads and privacy breaches. She claimed that, in 2017, her father and Perkins set up a company called "Fenty Entertainment", claiming that this company had ties to Rihanna.

In court documents, her lawyers said:

"Fenty and Perkins have used these lies in a fraudulent attempt to demand millions of dollars from third parties who do not suspect in exchange for the false promise that they were authorized to act on Rihanna's behalf."

According to NME, Rihanna also accused her father of booking a $ 15 million overseas tour without her permission, damaging the singer's reputation. Her lawyers also reportedly claimed that the two men had ignored numerous requests for leave and waiver.

It is also reported that Fenty tried to mark the word "Fenty", which Rihanna had already started using for some of her business ventures, including her cosmetics line, Fenty Beauty. Her father planned to use the name to open a hotel chain, but the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office denied the request.

Fearing that her father's actions would cause "serious irreparable damage" to the Fenty brand, Rihanna sought an order to ban her from using the name.

The singer and entrepreneur has been open about her strained relationship with her father in the past, occasionally talking about his suspicious drug problems when she was a child.
