Can 'vaginal discharge' whiten the underwear? 3 gynecologists answer

Have you ever noticed spots in the middle of a pair of newly worn underwear? Gusset - which is called the area of ??clothing that vaginal discharge or vaginal secretions usually affect, may look bleached.

According to gynecologist Amy Roskin, staining of underwear fabric is generally not a sign of a medical issue - but, it may be representative of the normal, mild acid of the vaginal pH. This usually ranges from 3.8 to 4.2.

"Sometimes a normal or 'physiological' vaginal discharge can also be slightly acidic, so it can cause a whitening effect," she says.

However, Roskin also adds that every individual is different, so not everyone actually experiences this phenomenon.

Meanwhile, vaginal discharge can come from a variety of causes, so they are not in every case acidic. Anna Cabeca, another gynecologist, also says that "the vaginal environment has a spectrum". Sometimes it can be very acidic and in other cases it causes only a simple stain.

Alyssa Dweck, physician, also mentions the theory that "discoloration of underwear is more likely due to washing".

In any case, if you notice anything different or disturbing about your vaginal discharge, contact your doctor for advice or leave a consultation. Sometimes, discharge can tell us about things happening in our body.

Usually, foul-smelling, persistent, itchy / irritating, or bloody secretions can be a sign of certain infections.

Abnormal discharge can also be a sign of structural problems
