What is it like to have 'odontophilia' - A fetish for teeth!

Basically, odontophilia is a fetish for sex that involves teeth, according to certified sex psychotherapist dr. Lee Phillipps.

"It can range from seeing your partner's teeth during sex, to just looking at someone's teeth in general. "You may not be having sex, but it can give you some kind of awakening."

Fetish can involve everything from focusing on someone's teeth in the middle of a conversation, to opening your partner's mouth with dental equipment during sex.

Odontophilia can also involve "exploring the teeth" in a dominance-submission dynamic, licking your partner's teeth, gently biting their skin, or - although NO ONE RECOMMENDS THIS - removing your partner's teeth.

What does not count as odontophilia, according to mental health therapist and social worker dr. Taryn Sinclaire, are bites or harassment on the neck, which are quite common sexual activities.

However, dental fetishism is often associated with "harsh, animalistic and aggressive" sex - certainly with the consent of both partners.

How to safely explore a fetish for teeth?

As with any sexual activity, there are right and wrong ways to engage in odontophilic activities.

First, communicate with your partner and make sure you have enthusiastic consent to everything you plan to try. ("I would like to touch your teeth. Is it okay?")

The partner who is biting should choose a muscular part of the body, such as the shoulder. (If you are biting a sensitive area, such as the nipples or clitoris, be gentle!)

It is normal to have fetishes that other people might not understand. The important thing is that at the end of the day, you and your partner are happy, without doing anything dangerous!
