Harnaaz Sandhu from India was crowned Miss Universe 2021 on Sunday, the ceremony that marked the end of a controversial competition organized this year in Israel.
During her speech on stage, she urged young people "to know that they are unique" and "not to compare yourself with others."
The competition was held in the resort town of Eilat, where 80 participants from all over the world competed for the crown. Nadia Ferreira from Paraguay was the first escort,
while Lalela Mswane from South Africa was ranked second.
This year's competition was accompanied by a lot of discussion. The borders of Israel would be open to vaccinated tourists, but the appearance of the Omicron variant caused the borders to be closed. There was also controversy over political views, with some critics calling for a boycott due to previous events in Israel (the conflict with Palestine ).
This year, our country was represented by Ina Dajci.
