North Korea stops laughing for 11 days

Kim Jong-un has reportedly stopped citizens from laughing for an 11-day period.

People in North Korea, if they smile or laugh out loud can face consequences. Today, December 17, marks 10 years since the death of Kim Jong Il and to mark the occasion, his son, Kim Jong-un, has decided to ban members of the public from laughing, drinking alcohol or enjoying leisure activities for a full 11 days, according to a citizen of the country.

The citizen also told Radio Free Asia that on December 17 the purchase of food was banned, Fox News reports. The mourning period will last 11 days instead of the usual 10 days because it is the 10th anniversary of Kim Jong Il's death.

People can not even celebrate their birthdays if they are within the mourning period.
