According to the head of the Department of Epidemiology at the IPH, Silva Bino, the Omicron variant is significantly dominating the country. Such an increase in cases, according to her, came due to the release of the measures that took place on the eve of the change of years, where the curfew was lifted for people to celebrate without restrictions.
"Omicron has entered our country and they are mainly imported cases and until the 50th week, until December 20, we have been pre-dominated by the Delta virus. Omicron has only been observed in a few cases related to overseas travel.
After Christmas, with the arrival of many people it shows that we have a spread. We had predicted that we might have an increase for the holidays. New Year's Eve played a role with the spread of Omicron, there is no question, as gatherings are the first tool that causes the virus to spread. Currently we have Omicron spread in our country. "The introduction of Omicron is dedicated to Christmas, the 24th and 25th," she said.
Bino added that positive cases have increased significantly at the age of 25-34-45, which corresponds to the most active age in social life.
"These measures we have are not implemented and law enforcement agencies do not control them properly. Wearing masks is important. They go to the opera, they do not wear masks, they do not present the certificate, but the measures are not implemented "- she continued.
Regarding Flurona, the combination of Covid-19 and the seasonal flu, Silva Bino said that there is still no confirmed case in Albania.
On the other hand, Minister Manastirliu said during a recent statement that about 80% of employees are vaccinated, adding that hospitals are on standby for any possible scenario.
"What we are doing is that we are already on alert as the increase in the number of cases, especially in recent days, has put our hospitals on increased alert as well. Currently we do not have an increased number of hospitalized, but of course we have all the readiness in the territory in the regional hospitals, but also in the hospitals Covid 1, Covid 3 and Covid 4, ready if we will have an increase in the flow of cases with COVID. "
