TIME magazine selected 12 representatives to inaugurate the 2022 list, "Women of the Year".
"When we sat down last fall to conceive of a version of this project that could become an ongoing tradition, we chose to highlight leaders who are working to create a better future for women everywhere," the editors wrote. "Our 2022 Women's List contains 12 individuals who have expanded across communities, generations and borders to fight for a more inclusive and equal world."
The debut of the list serves as a continuation of Time's "Women of the Year" project, which recognizes and honors 100 women for their contribution to the world.
The full list includes women from across the entertainment, activism and innovation sectors working towards change: software engineer Tracy Chou, athlete Allyson Felix, poet and activist Amanda Gorman, entrepreneur and civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, president of Legal Protection and NAACP Education Fund Sherrilyn Ifill, health activist Jennie Joseph, trans actress and activist Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, actress and activist Kerry Washington, singer-songwriter Kacey Musgraves, human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, executive director of Nasdaq newspaper Adena Fried , Zahra Joya.
