Why is bloating caused directly after sex? Doctors explain 5 possible reasons

Have you ever had fantastic sex with your partner, just to have embarrassment and an annoying bloating afterwards? It may seem strange, but it is not as unusual as it seems.

Before you figure out how to ease bloating after sex, it is important to understand why it is happening. Jennifer Wider, gynecologist, explains several reasons:

Upside down uterus

If you have an inverted uterus, sex can cause your uterus to move and make contact with other surrounding organs. As a result, you may experience pain and bloating. "The signs of a recurrent uterus are pain during sex and painful menstruation, but often there are no symptoms," says the women's health expert. In this regard, you should consult your doctor!

A bacterial imbalance can cause bloating

Another possible cause of bloating after sex is an imbalance or excessive growth of natural bacteria in the vagina. This can cause irritating infections, even leading to annoying sensations after sex.

Menstrual cycle

Hormones can cause a lot of changes inside the body and if you are near the days of the cycle, it would not be surprising to feel bloating in the abdominal area. This happens not only before but also after menstruation.

You have digestive problems

A more serious issue that may be the culprit after bloating involves the intestines. If you have a history of digestive problems - such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), constipation and indigestion - you may be prone to bloating after sex.

Unprotected sex

Having unprotected sex with someone is another possibility as to why you have cramps and stomach pain after sex. According to Dr. Wider, if semen enters your vagina, the prostaglandin (a type of lipid) found in semen can cause contractions and discomfort of the uterus.

If bloating does not go away after a few hours, or if you experience it constantly, consult your doctor!
