Someone was tempted (read: me) to try a trend that came up by accident (or not and so) and claimed it improves sleep.
This is a video where people drink the water of the lettuce plant, otherwise known as green salad. According to the illustrative videos, some green salad leaves should be placed in a cup of water and then we add hot water.
Some others added mint, chamomile, decaffeinated tea to make the mixture more palatable. I chose not to experiment with extra ingredients (read: I had neither mint, nor chamomile, nor tea at home). If you are curious, the mixture did not taste unbearable. It had more of a flavor than a taste.
"Some lettuces naturally contain an ingredient called lactucarium," says dietitian Melissa Azzaro, author of A Balanced Approach to PCOS.
There is evidence that it has given a positive effect in rats, but no studies have been performed in humans.
Did it work? For me no, I even woke up twice a night (to urinate because I had been drinking a lot of water apparently).
Supplement: You should be careful not to try it if you are taking blood thinners, as it may interact with the medicine.
