What is the difference between losing weight and 'burning' fat?

In principle, it can be easy to distinguish between weight loss and body fat loss.

Weight loss refers to a decrease in overall body weight from loss of muscle, water and fat. Burning fat refers to losing fat weight and is a more specific goal.

However, in practice, it can be difficult to know if you are losing weight from fat or muscle.

Most scales do not distinguish between fat loss and muscle loss. For this reason, just tracking your weight on the scales is not a reliable way to determine if you are losing fat or muscle and in what quantity.

However, you should focus on losing fat, not losing weight. Muscle damage can be detrimental, as muscle is an essential element of overall health.

Moreover, the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn.

How to lose fat and maintain or build muscle?

1. Eat lots of protein
2. Exercise
3. Eat a reduced calorie diet
