There are several ways to get a better night's sleep, or to gain something new, even while sleeping. For example, certain "noises" can help boost your memory.

A common denominator of these persistent sounds is their ability to drown out any other noise that might otherwise interrupt sleep. White, pink or brown "noises" can help prevent midnight awakenings and, in turn, improve sleep quality.

Below, sleep experts break down the differences between pink and brown noise and share their potential benefits for adequate quality sleep.

Pink noise

With pink noise, you are getting the "white noise" noise, but with a less sharp tone, as the intensity of the sound waves is smaller. Translation: Pink noise sounds more like the sound of continuous rainfall or like a waterfall.

"Because some elements of memory depend on the passage of time in this deeper, slow-wave sleep, it makes sense that pink noise can help seemingly improve memory." -Dr. Dasgupta

Brown noise

If you have unnecessary noises in the environment where you sleep, it is likely that brown noises "mask" this instability well.

Look for videos of brown, pink noises and listen to what makes you feel better.
