Gwyneth Paltrow shared why she thought selling vaginal scented candles was a good idea.

The actress attracted worldwide attention when she revealed that her company, Goop, would be selling candles with the name "This smells like my vagina." Understandably, people were shocked, considering most buyers would want their home to smell like vanilla or strawberry. To think of a house bearing the scent of a woman's genital area is strange.

But Paltrow finds it empowering. "This candle is really a provocation to say, 'It's amazing to be a woman in every way,'" she explained to the "Today" show. "It's amazing to have that kind of power and you deserve it."

Creating candles began as a joke between perfumer Douglas Little and Paltrow. Then the candles evolved "into a funny, wonderful, sexy and unexpected scent."

So, what specifically do "vagina scented" candles smell like? Well, according to Gwyneth, it's a blend of geranium, bergamot, cedar and damask rose.

So it's just a perfume…with a marketing game behind it. :)
