You probably know that breasts come in different shapes and sizes, but did you know that the same goes for nipples? In fact, there are several different types of nipples, but we can summarize 8 of them as the most common. All nipples are normal, and in fact, it is possible to have a combination of two or more of the types we will mention below. It's also possible that your nipples don't exactly fit into either of these categories—and that's perfectly normal, too.
Before we break down the different types of nipples, it's helpful to familiarize yourself with breast anatomy and some definitions you may not be familiar with.
Nipple - is a small projection located in the center of your breast.
Areola – is the circular pigmented area surrounding the nipple. This area looks different from person to person.
Get out
Protruding nipples are those that rise a few millimeters above the surface of the areola and point outward. When cooled or stimulated, the nipple may harden and become more prominent.
Flat
The entire nipple is flat and tends to stay level with the areola. Like a protruding nipple, a flat nipple can harden and become more prominent when it's cold or stimulated.
Swollen
Me gunga
It is common to have small lumps in the areola surrounding the nipple. These lumps are called Montgomery glands and can sometimes look like whiteheads. You may be able to squeeze the dead skin cells off them, but don't play with them.
Hairy
Stray and dark hair growing outside the areola area is normal. Everyone has hair follicles, but some people have more hair than others. They can be fine or thick and there is no problem if you want to pluck them with tweezers. Just be careful - the skin is very sensitive in that area.
