Cristiano Ronaldo has left Manchester United through a "mutual agreement" following accusations he made against his club during a recent interview. He has left without a reward and in turn there is no restriction on who he can play for next.

United had appointed lawyers to consider all possible actions that could be taken against Ronaldo for breach of contract, but in the end chose the option of leaving by agreement.

"The club would like to thank him for his huge contribution where he has scored 145 goals in 346 appearances. We wish him and his family all the best for the future. Now, the whole Manchester United team stands focused on the team's progress," the official statement said.

Ronaldo is currently playing for the Portugal national team in Qatar for the World Cup and said that his comments towards United at this time will not affect his teammates' focus on the Portuguese team.

Ronaldo, during a recent interview with Piers Morgan, given shortly before the start of the World Cup, said that he felt betrayed by Manchester and that manager Erik ten Hag had not shown him respect.

He also said that the behavior of the team representatives had "forced" him to leave as the management lacked empathy - especially when his son passed away in April - and that the owners, the Glazer family, did not want to know anything about the club. United are expected to replace him in January 2023.
