It is often believed that what we do (or eat) on New Year's Day can affect the outcome of the following year. 

Alexis McCrossen, professor of history, says the English and Germans created the tradition of kissing at midnight.

One of the earliest references to kissing on New Year's Eve was found in an 1863 New York Times article discussing the German celebration:

"As the clocks strike the hour of midnight, All this party pauses for a moment, To listen, and the last stroke dies in silence, All great and small, old and young, male and female, Are pushed to arms of each other and hearty kisses begin, with the exclamation "Neujahr e Prost!" (Happy New Year!)"

It doesn't really matter if the tradition has Albanian roots or not. If you have someone close to you this holiday, kiss them with all the passion you have and maybe this year will be the same for you - full of love and passion for beautiful things.
