We've all had a late night shower and go to bed with wet hair. Unfortunately, this can cause some unpleasant effects on the scalp, face and other parts of the body.

Marilisa Sears, Marc Anthony Hair Artistic Director, says:

"I never advise going to bed with wet hair because it can lead to fungal and bacterial infections, which then lead to itchy scalp and dandruff."

Hair is most fragile when it's wet, so if you go to bed like that, it's more likely to break.

If you sleep with wet hair, the scalp may become more sensitive and the skin there may become irritated.

On the other hand, the same negative effects apply to the skin. If you've been going to bed with wet hair a lot lately, we wouldn't be surprised if you told us you've noticed some skin irritation with bumps and acne.

We (according to dermatologists) advise you to change your pillowcases at least once a week and not to go to bed with wet hair.

Silk and satin pillows are better at creating less friction and therefore less hair damage than cotton pillowcases, but they don't necessarily have an impact on the amount of bacteria that can build up.
