The huge burst of energy released by the sun gave New Zealand its best display of the Southern Lights (Aurora Australis) in years. The Southern Lights appeared in cities that normally couldn't enjoy them.
St. red: Aurora Borealis is the term used to describe the phenomenon in the Northern Hemisphere, while Aurora Australis is used in the South. An aurora, commonly known as the aurora borealis, displays dynamic patterns of lights that cover the entire sky.
