Teas have fantastic properties - they can help you fight the cold on winter days or warm you up on dreary, rainy days. But, they can also have a super role in the body, such as anti-inflammatory.

"Inflammation is a defense mechanism the body uses to protect itself from infection," explains nutritionist Bonnie Taub-Dix. But when the immune system goes into overdrive even when there's nothing to fight, it can cause chronic inflammation, which can lead to certain diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and rheumatoid arthritis, among others.

One of the ways to fight inflammation is to pay attention to foods, avoiding foods that cause inflammation, such as fried foods, red meat, carbonated drinks, sugar, fats, etc.

Drinking tea can help in this situation, as tea leaves are rich in natural compounds known as polyphenols, which protect the body from inflammation. A study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine found that drinking two cups of tea a day was associated with a lower mortality rate in people compared to those who did not drink at all.

Tea has many benefits, but it is not a miracle worker. If your diet is full of sugary, fatty or salty foods and you don't exercise or get enough sleep, then a cup of tea is not the ideal answer for you.
