Jada Pinket Smith revealed in an exclusive interview for People that the famous rapper, Tupac Shakur, like her, suffered from alopecia , the auto-immune disease, which also causes hair loss.
"I don't think Tupac ever talked about alopecia," said the actress, and according to her, he had been suffering from uncontrollable hair loss since 1991, when he was arrested in California. "After (he was arrested) in Northern California and the cops beat him up, he started losing his hair and his alopecia was more extreme than mine," Smith recalled.
Jada said 2Pac, who was fatally shot in 1996, kept his illness a secret. “I don't think 2Pac ever talked about his alopecia, but he looked great with his waxed head. But it was during this time when he just didn't talk about it."
The actress, on the other hand, spoke openly about her diagnosis in 2018 and since then has made people aware of this disease.
Jada also said that she is convinced that if Shakur were alive today, she would be talking about alopecia publicly.
Jada, 52, and Shakur met at art school in Maryland in the mid-'80s. They were close friends until the "Dear Mama" rapper was shot to death in September 1996.
In previous interviews, Jada has also talked about how she met 2Pac. "It was the first day, he came up to me and introduced himself. In high school, Pac had a bit of a funny look. Ultimately, from the looks of it, he wasn't exactly the type to deal with. But as soon as he approached me, he was like a magnet. The moment you paid attention to him, he absorbed you", she said.
