Actor DiCaprio was rumored at the time for a possible Oscar after his performance in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" and Stone was "eager" to work with the young rising star named Leonardo DiCaprio. She was convinced to get DiCaprio and Russell Crowe in the film, and was even willing to pay for it.

She said then: "These are the two actors I want to work with," DiCaprio recalled. "It's unbelievable. She has been a champion of cinema and has given opportunities to young actors to get involved in roles, so I am very grateful to her," the actor continues.

"I have thanked him many times," he added. "I don't know if I send him a real thank you gift, but what I say or do will never be enough to say thank you enough," DiCaprio points out.
In her memoir, The Beauty of Living Twice, Sharon Stone revealed that she paid DiCaprio's salary herself after TriStar Pictures refused to hire him as an actor.

"This kid named Leonardo DiCaprio was the only one who auditioned," Stone wrote, adding that she auditioned a small number of teenage actors for the role.

"The studio told me that if I wanted it that much, I could pay for it from my salary. So I did," Stone continues.

The Quick and the Dead was released in 1995 alongside other DiCaprio films such as The Basketball Diaries and Total Eclipse. The following year, the actor's career exploded with the success of James Cameron's Titanic.

The Oscar winner is currently in theaters starring in Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon.
