Ruby Franke, 41, a popular YouTube influencer, was accused of torturing her two children, aged 9 and 12. She was found guilty Monday in a Utah court of committing multiple counts of child abuse.
Franke denied the children drinking water, forced them to stay in the sun for days, which caused serious burns and skin problems. She also punished them if they drank water in secret and did not give them enough food during meals.
In July of this year, one of the minors tried to leave the house and Ruby grabbed him and handcuffed him by the ankles and hands, tying his limbs together with rope. According to the statements, the child was suspended, with its limbs tied. She even put his head in water and tried to drown him, covering his nose and mouth while kicking him.
Franke tried to convince the child that he was "evil and possessed" and that punishment was a way to "save" him. In the same way, he treated the 6-year-old girl, telling her that these were acts of love.
Franke has accepted the accusations and cruel violence against minors, saying: "With the deepest remorse and the greatest sadness for my family and children, I am guilty." He will be sentenced on February 20, 2024.
Ruby faced 6 charges of child abuse and admitted 4 of them. Known for her YouTube channel, 8 Passengers, Ruby surprised people when she faced such allegations. She, on YouTube, talked about the way of life with her husband and their 6 children, as well as the ways she disciplined the children. The parents were part of the "Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints" church and taught the children from home.
The YouTube channel grew to 2.3 million followers and always piqued people's curiosity.
Her arrest was made possible after one of the boys, 12 years old, escaped through the window of their house and went to a neighbor to ask for water and food. The neighbor notified the authorities, who arrested the mother. The boy had leftover glue on his feet, was hungry and thirsty.
The boy was admitted to the hospital and after searches, her daughter, 10 years old, was also found in a bad condition. Four of her children are under the age of 18 and have been taken into foster care by the state.
